SCHOOL WORKS PROJECT
This initiative uses participatory techniques at the early stage of a project. At Kingsdale School, Southwark, all staff, pupils and the local community took part in workshops, using creative techniques from drama to art to assess how they felt about the existing buildings. School Works and the schools it is collaborating with have proposed a number of ways in which the building works can be used in the curriculum including: measurement and quantities in maths; engineering work and construction materials in science; newsletters in English; older pupils having work experience on site; health and safety; and site workers becoming mentors to older pupils.
