Take
a large volume of children,
pass them through a narrow
opening like a corridor or stairwell
- you get friction and problems.
As children's learning becomes
more complex and varied, their
timetable block lengths increase
dramatically. Children concentrate,
are engaged and don't want to stop,
so they move less. School design
stops being about moving large
volumes of children efficiently.
Many corridors disappear; learning
space grows significantly and
discipline improves too. Wide stairs
can double up as lecture theatre
steps and the whole school
becomes more social and engaging. |
