This is an example of the technology we have used to deliver the listening and speaking exercises.

We have used QuickTime 3, LiveStage and HyperCard to create multiple text track movies to suit a range of langauge learning tasks.

  • QuickTime 3 organises all the data, maintaining synchronisation between the pictures, audio and text tracks and providing the underlying interactivity. It also provides compression technology for the sound, in this case using QualComm PureVoice™ (9-1 compression, 22Khz, 16bit).
  • LiveStage let us exploit this technology by creating a 'wired sprite' QuickTime track to make interactive buttons to hide and reveal text.
  • HyperCard, together with the QTEditMovie XCFN, was used to store all the data and to manufacture the movie.
