Learning in the New Millennium

Phase Two Achievements

The diversity of 'productions' resulting from these activities and the discourse surrounding these 'productions' extends the debate concerning future working practice and childrens perceptions.

Our system has remained open and democratic at a time of increasing panic concerning the World Wide Web (www). This project has demonstrated that by giving advice, and using commonsense practices it is possible to run an open, unfiltered system.

A database has been built allowing participants to add their own 'multimedia snipits'.

This project uses the First Class conferencing system which integrates a 'web page area' so that every participant can place files in a conference folder to be immediately published on the web.

Consequently all project participants have total control of their own webspace and can make subsequent changes which will have immediate effect, for example they can change their web page and instantly view the change on the web.

Activities which reponding to schools needs is an important aspect of this project. The production of a CDROM in a week was one of these activities This CD was to be ALL the work of pupils, produced mainly on school equipment and pupils were expected to make all the key decisions with advice and support from staff and Ultralab.

Other activities include;

a web site produced by pupils using digital images

a video record of a local area

a www school magazine

a primary school 'A day in our school'

an animation involving young children in attempting a 'Wallace and Gromit' type
