A study of the ICT freedoms and facilities available to HE Students

Miscellaneous

86% of students said that they would recommend their University to friends based on its ICT facilities and freedoms.

12% said that they wouldn't recommend their university based on its ICT facilities and freedoms.

2% did not respond.

2% of the prospectuses received state that students are involved in some way with the development of the ICT facilities. 2% of questionnaire responses also said that students maintain the computer systems.

Students were asked ÒAre you aware of how users (ie students) are consulted regarding ICT decisions/policy making?Ó. The responses were text-based but could be categorised. (see table 1)

The majority of responses stated that students were involved at least to some extent, normally through representation at meetings, but it is unknown how much influence they hold. This way it is likely that not all students will be represented.

Just 8% said that all students are able to contribute to ICT policy making, albeit indirectly through questionnaires, or a computer users forum.

Over a quarter of questionnaires submitted said that students were not consulted at all regarding any ICT decisions/policy making.

The information used in this survey has been taken directly form prospectuses, information from university admissions staff and the opinions of students. Ultralab cannnot be held responsible for any misinformation, regarding universities ICT facilities, support, access or freedoms.
