Competitors Update- 3/7/00
Looking forward to the event?
We are delighted to be able to report that the championship is on track to be a wonderful week - from the measuring on Saturday 5th, to the final tenth race on Friday 11th. Entries, many via the on-line entry form, are going well, with many entrants in their first major event. Encouragingly we have a good number of older boats entered too so it really promises to be an event with "something for everyone".
The local council at Brightlingsea has taken the event very much to heart with the opening last month of a Mirror Millennium Garden whilst this week. It really makes an event to have the full town's support behind it; they all look forward to welcoming you to Brightlingsea, the home of sailboat racing.
Several have asked "why bother to enter early?" and it is worth reminding everyone that there are two reasons: we will be measuring, allocating jib numbers and berth numbers in entry order (Guy Wilkins is #1 !). Plus if you enter before 1st August you get two limited edition T shirts which will not be available any other way.
The social programme is looking even more tiring than the racing and non competitors may need to be in training for it. We have everything from bungee jumping and fireworks on the Saturday measuring day, through an evening ten-pin bowling on Walton pier to the five-a-side football and even a full Circus arriving. And that will be after an exhausting day watching from the beaches or the spectator boats. Oh and music every night with some great live bands too.
Finally the club has enjoyed some significant improvements - a doubling of the size of our slipway and a Melges converted to our committee boat have added a touch of class whilst a vast marquee for the event and for Pyefleet Week the previous week (another social and sailing marathon for early-comers!) has added more space to a big club.
You should be, it only happens once every thousand years
