Welcome to Daisyworld- a simplified, model planet invented by James Lovelock to examine aspects of the Gaia hypothesis. The planet is orbiting a star like the sun. On the planet, the only plants are daisies - which come in two forms, light and dark. Being light, the light daisies reflect sun's heat and so can survive even when it gets warm. On the other hand, being dark, the dark daisies absorb the sun's heat and so can survive in cooler conditions.

How do you think the daisies influence the climate? Have a look at these situations and try to work out why different things happen in different circumstances. Try out all the situations and compare them to help you figure out why the changes are occurring.

You can control Daisyworld for yourself. You can try out different daisies in different combinations. You can also add animals to the model or perturb it in other ways. Click on the items on the left to add them to Daisyworld - You can have more than one item at once.
