Learning in the New Millennium
1993-2000

a collaborative project between Nortel and Ultralab

Learning in the New Millennium (LiNM) run from September 1993 until September 2000. Below is identified the three phases through which the Project pasted. Each phase links to Project's findings and gives examples of the work undertaken by LiNM participants.

Phase One (1993 - 1997)

This phase concentrated on asynchronous on-line learning communities.

Phase Two (1997 - 1999)

The research focus for this phase moved the on-line learning community beyond text into the realm of multiple media.

Phase Three (1999 -2000)

With changes in technology, the Project's emphasis moved to examine the impact of mobile communications.

Throughout the lifetime of LiNM the same schools provided the research population. The project was only possible because of their support and patience. Over 1000 pupils 'graduated' from the Project during its lifetime, many of the early participants becoming mentors at a later stage.

Without the continued support from Nortel this longitudinal study would not have been possible. We are grateful for their continual financial and collaborative input.
