Travel tips
Expect good service and a high level of security at German airports.
If you have time, buy a German newspaper or magazine to leaf through - you will be surprised how much this will improve your German. Buy German songs (Lieder) on cassette or CD, too.
Look for a pocket-sized dictionary at the book counter and check out the words on the signs, eg:
'Abflug' | Departure |
'Anflug' |
'Dienststelle' |
'Informationsschalter' |
'Fundbüro' |
A book counter may stock useful collections of social and business correspondence in German - and you could pick up a German novel to read. Consider buying a children's book or comic.
Finally, if you opportunistically strike up a conversation with German speakers, you may need to make a determined effort to stop them speaking English to you!
