Munich life
Silke lives in Schwabing, only a walk away from Munich's town centre. This quarter is very popular with young people, artists and students. Flats are highly sought after and can be expensive. As well as all kinds of trendy boutiques there are plenty of cafés and nightclubs.
Silke suggests going for a walk in the English Garden. As the name suggests this is a large 'informal' park. People behave there fairly informally too, especially in summer, when there's a lot of sunbathing!
Andreas lives in a WG (Wohngemeinschaft). Flatsharing with a group is increasing in popularity, not only among young people..
Icebreakers
It's often easier to listen than talk, when you're first learning a language. Overcome the intial hurdle: prepare a list of questions to use when getting acquainted. Some things to ask about:
- living arrangements;
- friends and family;
- work.
