Brief - what to do, step by step.

In real life it can be much easier to understand what people are saying! This is because you know something about the situation, and you have a purpose.

In this task you are trying to understand at least the gist of the dialogue.

We've helped you with some materials:

1. Print out the notes on Customs and Culture.
2. Print out the Pronunciation Guide if necessary.
3. Print out the Scripts if necessary.
4. Download the Movies if necessary.
5. Anticipate people's behaviour by reading the notes on Customs & Culture
6. Read your Purpose on the script and keep it in mind as you listen.
7. Select Listen and understand and listen out for the 'key' words and phrases - the speaker's intonation can help you here.
8. Imagine you're listening to a very strong dialect form of English. Listen out for any words which sound very like English ones. (Need some help with this? Consult the Pronunciation Guide)
